The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox played the first annual Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa. Because of their role in the movie the White Sox were the home team.
They played at an 8,000 person stadium in the middle of a cornfield constructed just to reenact the scene in the movie... Just as Ray Konsella hears in the movie, "if you build it, they will come"... And that's exactly what happened. People came from all over the United States to experience this dream-like baseball game in the heart of America.
With that in mind, the game did not disappoint and the magic was present. Combined the teams hit 8 home runs and the White Sox won in a walk-off fashion.
Here was the game-winning play. The White Sox shortstop, Tim Anderson, stepped up to the plate, down one in the bottom of the 9th inning. There was one out and a guy on first. On the first pitch of his at-bat, he took a pitch deep to right field to walk it off for the Chicago White sox. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
